Over a hundred of song artists took pride singing the immortal song You Raise Me Up which was written by Secret Garden's Rolf Løvland and the lyrics by Brendan Graham. But don’t you know that it was first known as You Raise Me Up By Brian Kennedy? When it was first released as a single of Secret Garden’s album titled, Once in a Red Moon, it was well sold in Ireland and Norway but does not peak the billboard chart. Years after, successful different versions came out like of Josh Groban and Westlife. Now, this song turned to be sensational all over the world.
Even it doesn’t turned to be #1 in the billboard chart when it was first released as a single, You Raised Me Up found success after Kennedy performed it at the funeral of Northern-Irish professional football player George Best who died because of alcoholism. The death of this international football icon has been controversial and well talked because of his stories about being addicted in alcohol and with his dramatic statement in hospital bed; “don’t die like me”. After the funeral it was released as a single in 2005 as part of George Best-A Tribute by Peter Corry. It reached #4 in the UK Billboard Chart.
Brian Edward Patrick Kennedy before being associated to this soulful song is originally known as an Irish-singer, song writer and author. He sings ballads. He made a big step when he represented Ireland at Eurovision Song Contest 2006 and became one of the finalists. When You Raise Me Up By Brian Kennedy was first heard, his fans expectation was that he will turn to be Secret Garden vocalist but it does not happened due to illness that hindered him to join the group in its Asian tours. Brian Kennedy then turned to be a solo song artist with ten successful albums since 1990 to 2008; eleven singles which four peak in the UK billboard chart.
